Beyond Fractals:
Intimate Images of Natural Patterns
Photographs by Neil Goldstein
Welcome to my website. Photography has been my artistic passion for over fifty years. However, I did not quit my day job to pursue photography seriously until about twenty years ago. This website is the showcase of my work since then.
My greatest interest as a photographer has always been natural patterns. The patterns of nearly all natural growth, and many other natural forces, are fractals. Fractals are patterns in which identical elements repeat at each level, and from level to level ("self-repeating"). However, my work is not about capturing pure fractals. Instead, I look for scenes where the interaction of fractals, other patterns, and random forces resonates with our sense of sight to create images of beauty and peace.
This home page has samples of images of all the subjects that I regularly shoot. The most intensely patterned photography appears on the Beyond Fractals page. The images of the other subjects may be less patterned, but all of the images here reflect my commitment to close examination of natural environments and a love of color.
I hope you enjoy my art. Thanks for visiting.
